Summary:
The poem reflects a struggle between darkness and light, symbolizing a person's battle with inner or external forces that suppress their freedom and joy. The speaker yearns for the light, representing hope and liberation, but feels trapped by the darkness that constantly stifles their ability to see, speak, and act freely. Despite the persistent presence of this shadowy force, the speaker expresses a longing for a time when they might break free and live in the light, unburdened by the constraints of darkness.
In shadows deep, I yearn for light,
A distant glow, a beacon bright.
Each time it glimmers in my gaze,
The darkness moves to dim its rays.
I smile beneath the open sky,
Yet shadows steal it as they fly.
It seems the night won't let me go,
Bound by its grip, I'm caught below.
Will there come a day I see,
The light like others, clear and free?
To walk unfettered, speak my mind,
With words unchained, no dark to bind.
Yet still I fear my steps are chained,
My actions halted, my strength drained.
The darkness blinds me to the dawn,
Silences my voice till hope is gone.
My ears closed off, my heart confined,
My will suppressed, my freedom signed.
Will I reclaim what's lost and fight,
Or live forever in the night?
